Separatist movement dealt heavy blow

The Director of Beijing’s Liaison Office in Hong Kong, Zhang Xiaoming, says a heavy blow has been dealt to what he called Hong Kong’s separatist movement by the recent disqualification of the four pro-democracy lawmakers – over the manner in which they took their oaths of office. He said the court judgment that invalidated their oaths had “manifested the authority of the Basic Law and the National People’s Congress Standing Committee’s interpretation” on the matter. Zhang also said “justice was served, and the rule of law was safeguarded” by Tuesday’s sentencing of three people who took part in the Mong Kok riot last year. Two were jailed for three years each, and another was sent to a correctional training centre.
