Nathan Law talks to RTHK’s Janice Wong
Demosisto lawmaker Nathan Law on Friday welcomed cross-party calls for the future Carrie Lam administration to reopen Civic Square, the east wing forecourt of the government’s headquarters in Admiralty.
But Law – who was one of many students that took over the square in 2014 at the start of Occupy protests – said he cannot rule out doing so again if necessary.
The area that had become a popular venue for demonstrations was closed in July 2014. And now there are calls from both pro-democracy and pro-establishment parties for the government to reopen it.
Law told RTHK’s Janice Wong that reopening the square would be a good thing, but he stopped short of saying whether it would help mend political rifts in society.
Lam seems to have more inclusive attitude towards other opinions than the current administration, he said. But he added that this won’t help if structural problems in society remain.
